Working hardestAssisting

Before your first rep

  • Feet shoulder-width on the platform, placed high enough that your heels stay flat at the bottom.
  • Sit fully back so your lower back is flat against the pad, not arched off it.
  • Check the safety catches are set before you release the sled.

The movement

  1. 1Sit with your back flat against the pad and place your feet about shoulder-width apart on the platform.
  2. 2Release the safety handles, then lower the platform by bending your knees until they reach roughly 90 degrees.
  3. 3Push through your whole foot to return, stopping just short of locking your knees straight.

Watch out for

If your lower back rounds off the pad at the bottom, you are going too deep. Shorten the range.

No history for this one yet. Start lighter than you think you need — you should finish every set feeling like you had four or five more reps in you. You can always add weight next session; a strain costs you weeks.

Set the pin low for your first set and add from there. Nothing is lost by starting too light on day one.
